Blind Your Ponies a Novel written by Stanley Gordon West

Updated: Mar 25, 2022

I just finished reading a remarkable book by a local author: Blind Your Ponies, a Novel written by Stanley Gordon West.

It had been recommended to me by several of my friends and I finally had some time to read it. I am so glad I did.

The novel is about a small Montana town called Willow Creek and the basketball team that flooded the hearts of its residents.

Let me start by saying I am not a basketball fan. I like it, I am just not at all an avid spectator. Even so, this book was one I couldn’t put down.

The way the author volleys sport with spirit, the clamor of life with the struggle of the game, the trenches of the soul with the trenches of the tournaments, is sure brilliance. The depth of description of the surrounding Montana landscapes is as breathtaking as the stunning dialogue used to usher us into the hard-fought battles on the hardwood.

I finished the book with tears streaming down my face and emotion full of losses and wins, both on and off the court. The characters have been written with an undeniable edge. The boundless bearing of their souls, however, brings them into your world as though building a community within your own heart.

If you have the time and are craving a book that leads you into the bravery and being of a community, please consider this book. It will leave you better or reading it!
